Rolls Royce Advertising Class

Selling To The Top Of Market

Good morning. I’m always going to prefer the classic nature of direct-response advertising. It’s chic. It’s potent. And it works better. However, as my company ages, I’m beginning to understand the importance of developing a nice brand image as well. This is what the best companies do. Check it out.

Direct Response → Brand Image

The proper direction is direct response to brand image. If you look at the best brands nowadays — the ones we can’t compete with — likely started years ago primarily in direct response. Think about the evolution of Rolls Royce. 🚘️

As the brand developed over the years, the need for direct response became less and less. While they still infuse direct response into the copy and advertising, it looks more polished nowadays. Take a look.

The new ads are beautiful and simple, but remember the entire brand was built on direct response for decades. A luxury car company. Built on direct response copywriting and advertising. This is probably a sign that high-end consumers like to read your direct response copywriting — even if they don’t say so. Take the hint! 😉

Developing A Brand Image

The companies I work with often have a brand image developed before I assist them. But I notice good founders let the brand develop itself, instead of obsessing over their brand guide before launching anything. Or worrying too much about it in the first place.

I believe you should let the customer/client help you develop the brand. After you get your core customer base, craft a brand image around what they would like to see and associate with. Chances are, you’ll attract more customers/clients that way, instead of blindly planning things out.

How To Infuse Direct Response

Even the fanciest brands still need direct response. Especially if they plan on cutting through the noise of social media and ad platforms. That’s why you should follow the suit of Rolls Royce and write useful copy.

Make your ads, whitepapers, newsletters, and marketing videos full of utility. This will increase the shareability of your content, help you sell more indirectly, and create goodwill with your customers/clients. Try it out today.
