How To Find Ideal Customers

Identifying Bad-Fit Clients Before They Pay

Good morning. A business needs high-quality customers to thrive. This is true if you’re in low-ticket e-commerce or you operate a high-ticket B2B firm. Here are a few tweaks you can make to avoid bad-fit clients and customers.

Notice How They Book A Call

If you rely on booked calls to close deals, you can usually tell the quality of the customer before the call. Unfit clients will be offended by your outreach method, no matter how good it is. They will refuse to schedule on your calendar link and tell you how your marketing isn’t good. Good potential clients just book in without any questions or concerns. 😆

We just had a sales call the other day where the prospect was refusing to answer our very simple questions. He got upset when I asked him about his coaching offer and shut down when I asked what his MRR was. I realized after the call that this guy complained about my prospecting message and refused to book in via my calendar link, despite there being many available times. Looks like I overlooked that red flag.

Do They Care About Your Business?

A good potential client or customer will be curious about your business. If you take a sales call with them, they might ask about your team, how you work, or where you’re from. They want to know how you work and if you’re legit, but more importantly, they probably are more genuine and care about people.

Listen, there’s nothing wrong with getting to the point. I don’t like long, drawn-out calls either. But taking 2 minutes to get to know you is a good sign that the client will be respectful to you in the future and not demand ridiculous refunds.

Are They Open To Learning?

The best founders are open to learning. If they have shown interest to inquire with your company, they should be interested in your process and what you can offer. If they try to pigeonhole you in the first minute of the call or not let you do your thing, they are probably going to be an awful fit.

Even for low-ticket companies that don’t speak to their customers on a call, a few tweaks in your marketing can limit the number of low-quality buyers. This means fewer chargebacks, refunds, and negative reviews.
